The Fox and the Pup – A Fable

The Fox and the Pup - A Fable - John DadlezBy John Dadlez,

One day a fox went hunting in the woods and caught a young pup. The pup pleaded with the fox, “Don’t eat me now! I’m much too small and scrawny for you. I would hardly be a snack. Let me go and I promise that I will return in a year. I will have more meat and you’ll feast on my bones for days afterword.

The greedy fox decided that the pup was right. He made the pup swear to return in a year and then let the pup go.

At the end of one year the fox returned to the spot and anxiously waited for his meal.

Out of the thicket emerged a huge hound dog that immediately pounced on the fox. “I have returned as I promised,” said the dog. “Now it is your turn to beg for mercy.”

Moral: “Never let weak enemies become strong enemies.”
