A Second Chance – A Fable

A Second Chance - A Fableby John Dadlez,

A man died after living a long, and what he thought to be, very successful life. In his lifetime he had acquired much wealth and power. When he died his soul went to Heaven and he stood before the ‘Pearly Gates’ along with a multitude waiting to gain entrance. Saint Peter reviewed the lives of each one who stood before him from his great book; some were let in, but many were lead away and cast out.

When it was the man’s turn Saint Peter laid out his life before him to see. It was then that the man realized how selfish, unfeeling, and unkind he had been to those closest to him and his fellow men. The sinner became afraid for he knew he would be damned. He pleaded, “Please have mercy on me, give me a second chance so that I might right these many wrongs.”

Saint Peter looked at the man standing before him and said, “You chose your path very early in life when you committed your first grievous sins against God and your fellow men. Every morning you woke since was God’s gift to you, offering you a second chance. You’ve had thousands of second chances.”

Moral: Every day is a second chance
